Sidney Coad Williams

“My Grandpa can outlift your Grandpa!”

Sidney Coad Williams Interview

By:  Matt Weik

Ok, for starters, Sidney isn’t really my grandfather.  But seriously, this guy is amazing.  For most people his age sitting around all day and taking naps is a norm.  Not for Sidney, while most are sleeping he is in the gym training—AND NOT WITH ANY SISSY WEIGHTS!

Sidney, thank you for taking time out of your day for this interview with me.  You have quite an amazing story.  You are a world record holder, health activist, as well as a retired South African Police Detective Superintendent.  For those who have never read about you, can you give them a brief background on yourself?

Most 83 year olds have no problem sitting on the sofa all day and watching tv and taking naps.  What motivates you to stay active?

Now you have been training since 1945.  That’s longer than some of the ages reading this interview!  What got you started in weight lifting?

How many days a week do you train?  And what do your workouts look like?

You are one of the strongest people in the world for your age class, what does that mean to you?

You actually challenge people to try and beat your world record.  Has anyone come close?

Are you currently trying to break any other world records?

Sidney, your story is truly inspirational.  I wish you the best.  Thank you again for taking the time for this interview.  Cheers!

Greetings
Thank you for the accolades.
Yes I started training in 1945 with dumbells, a barbell, a headstrap and iron boots as we did not have any gyms then.
My driving force was to get sufficient strength to face up to bullies who are too scared to confront men who are their equals strength wise.
I train twice a week with heavy weights as I concentrate on strength training.
I use loose weights barbells, dumbbells and machines.
I am one of the strongest people in the world in the age group 80 years and older.
I have been featured on television, in newspapers and I have a presence in most blogs.
My challenge is in all my blogs but to date I have not received a challenge.
I am a HEALTH ACTIVIST.
I hope that there are other men or women out there who are in the same category as myself
because I will then be able to conclusively prove that adopting a
HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
can benefit everyone.
I AM NOT ONE OF A KIND

Citizen Alert ZA: Bheki Cele new national commissioner of SAPS

Citizen Alert ZA: Bheki Cele new national commissioner of SAPS

Greetings Commissioner Bheki Cele.

You are now the head of a powerful organisation.

I sincerely hope that you, during your tenure of office, will be remembered as an outstanding commissioner.

The SAPS needs a Commissioner who is honest, capable and non discriminatory.

Some members of the SAPS are currently being criticised in press reports for various reasons, some being the following:

1. Inability to record statements that reflect the crime being reported.
2. Loss of dockets through negligence or bribery.
3. Selling firearms to criminals
4. Lack of respect
5. Not responding timeously to reported crime.
6. Lack of investigative ability.
7. Poor Crime Scene activity and search for and retention of evidence.
8. Critism about the number of obese policemen and policewomen.

I hope that you and other concerned officers will strive to address these alleged shortcomings and that because of your positive action and those of your concerned officers, policemen and policewomen, positive reports will replace the negative reports currently appearing in the media.

I am a retired SAPS Detecive Superintendent.

It hurts when I read these reports and allegations of incompetency and impropriety.

May I suggest that you seriously consider employing selected retired SAPS employees with the requisite credentials to do the following:

1. Record statements (affidavits) from complainants in serious crimes.
2. Accompany investigators in serious crimes to the crime scenes to supervise the investigation and ensure that evidence is appropriately collected and delivered to the appropriate analyst for investigation.

Policemen and policewomen must be adequately protected by law when confronted by criminals in possession of dangerous weapons. If their lives or the lives of citizens are at risk, they must be able to respond with deadly force in appropriate circumstances.

I fully support the suggestion that all dockets be digitised and stored for immediate retrieval when required as in the case of loss or theft.

I also support the filming of crime scences in serious cases so as to avoid the loss of critical evidence.

I suggest that the recording of confessions by criminals be videoed to avoid the criminal claiming that he or she was unduly influenced of assaulted.

May I suggest that policemen and women be encouraged to attain and maintain physical strength and mobility by joining gymnasiums.

A policeman or policewomen who can run fast and who is strong is capable of catching a fleeing criminal and handcuffing him or her when arrested.

Obesity has a negative effect in respect of the performance of police personnel and indeed all people and it also has a negative effect on one's health.

I WISH YOU AND ALL MY ANCESTRA L BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN THE SAPS THE BEST OF HEALTH AND MAY YOU LIKE MYSELF ENJOY A WELL EARNED RETIREMENT.
